my life… my own piece of heaven

the adventures of 2 soulmates in love, and our chikiting

we had to comfort ourselves after a bad movie

we watched ouija in blue wave marquinton. we decided to watch this movie because

a) i have slowly but surely turned into a juday fan (hehehe… ever since watching KKK, i loved her!)

b) i also love iza calzado( she’s great in this movie, the only saving grace for me)  and

c) it’s a scary movie. (hubby and i just love scary movies!)

too bad the movie is such a disappointment!  sure the cinematograpy was ok, camiguin is beautiful… the musical score was so-so. the  most disappointing part of this movie is the fact that almost every scary part has been shown in other movies i’ve seen before. i already know when the ghost will appear and where they will appear. the crawling on walls, “the sadako walk”,  “emily rose pose”, the hiding under the blanket… almost everything! the music, which is supposed to help build up the suspense didn’t help at all. i wasn’t scared even a little bit…. blah blah blah… in other words.. for us, it wasn’t worth watching.

this was how we looked like when we got out of the movie house:

hindi kami natutuwa!

when we got out we were so disappointed with our movie, we had to comfort ourselves… so we went to timezone hehehe. we went in those videoke booths and let out all our pent up anger, and sang ala-piolo, sam, savage garden, britney, madonna, lea etc  as in mayanig-yanig ang booth! hehehe.

dream come true!   #225017 nga! *wink!*   birit king   way back into love duet (oa si hubby)    this is it!

then by the time we were  done with our mini concer, we have already worked up an appetite and ate at hotshots…i ordered the kamikaze burger. 1/4lb patty with cheese and wasabi spread. hot and yummy! hunny had a burger deluxe plus a junior burger (medyo nabitin!)

yummy!   @ hotshots   minsan lang naman!

well ok, the only good thing we got out of watching ouija is that it allowed hubby and me to spend a fun saturday night bonding and having quality time together… a very much appreciated break for the both of us!

ps: hubby read somewhere that ouija will have a sequel… uh,puh-leeez!

video marathon

these last two weeks, we activated our membership in our local videoshop. why? cost-cutting… and so that we can stay home and spend time with our bea. so, what movies did we borrow?

  • ghost rider (great effects, but i fell asleep towards the end)

  • the departed (violent but wonderful movie!)

  • 28 days later (great movie)

  • transporter 2 (hubby’s fave, INCREDIBLE stunts)

  • the jacket (ok story, slow pace)

  • firewall (blah)

  • santa santita (blah-blah)

  • the last temptation (we didn’t finish this one, nakakailang, too much “humanity”)

i am now watching In Her Shoes, (cameron diaz, toni collette, shirley maclaine)… so far so good

if i have time, i’ll blog a review on these movies =)

i must admit, watching movies is our fave past time.. a great way to stay in an alternate universe… ;)

we meet again mr. potter…

dsc00157

yup, watched the new harry potter movie on the first day!  hmmm. this was my least favorite book among the potter collection, not because of the writing but because of harry himself, as he says in the trailer, he just feels so angry all the time! (in heavy british accent) i didn’t like this book simply because we don’t see the same adorable harry as in the previous books.

but this blog entry  isn’t about the book, it’s about the movie… i absolutely loved it! the unforgettable umbridge giggles (the actress who played umbridge was perfect for the role i tell you!) , the drama, the suspense, the magical wand fights…perfect!  i won’t blog about the details of the movie in respect for those who haven’t watched it yet, although all potter fans know it is a grave sin not to watch this movie on the first day! ;)

the only things i found off with this movie are the actors who played cho and dumbledore. with cho, i just didn’t like her, i think she’s not pretty enough… as for dumbledore, i think he’s just to nimble for the old wizard that i imagine him to be. i just can’t help but wish it was the actor who played gandalf,  playing dumbledore. i mean he’s wise, old and frail enough but deep inside you know you can still count on him for he exudes an inner strength. oh well. wishful thinking won’t hurt right? =)

anyway, those were my thoughts about the movie.

we felt a bit shy having our pics taken at rockwell (too jologs!) so after the prayer meeting, picture muna sa mega! =)

die hard 4.0

die hard

ok, this blog entry may be a bit late. we watched this movie last saturday, after our 4th post mss at st paul’s makati. (our anti-tardiness campaign failed yet again by the way, 30 mins late hehehe…) anyway, we went to megamall to watch the movie but before going in, hubby insisted on buying some krispy kreme donuts, his new fave. (needless to say, our diet was ruined for the day, hmp)

back to the movie, here it was released as die hard 4.0 but in the states it was released as live free or die hard. i’m not a john maclane fan to begin with, but hubby is, he watched the whole trilogy! i did like the first one though, released back in 1988. it featured a very young bruce willis trying to impede the take over of the nakatomi building where his wife holly was working.  don’t ask me about die hard parts 2 and 3 though, because i can’t remember a thing… i slept through the movies! (much to the dismay of my hubby)

back to the present, die hard 4.o, released 12 years after the third installment. maclane is now divorced and trying to have a relationship with his daughter, lucy.

in the middle of the night, on his way home, his boss calls in a favor to pick up a young hacker and drop him off in washington dc. sounds harmless enough, so he accedes. of course this supposed to be “simple”  mission turns out to be just the beginning of an assortment of life-threatening adventures between maclane and matt farrell. ( he’s the guy with lindsay lohan in herbie)

hmmm. what can i say about the movie? well, bruce willis reprises his role as a dark, brooding detective with a temper, who loves talking to himself. (yup, he still does that) only in this movie, it was a war in the digital age, so he was a bit lost sometimes, hence his need for a sidekick, matt. although it is quite obvious that maclane has aged a lot since the last movie, his action scenes were more demanding on this movie. i mean, he is simply indestructable. sure he gets cuts and bruises but heck, he falls off a couple of stories in a building and lands smack on concrete… and walks off as if he does this everyday.  i guess his appeal as the simple everyday guy caught at the wrong place at the wrong time is now replaced by the indestructible superhero who can do just about everything, i mean kudos to maclane, the more he ages the more imperishable he gets.

well, anyway, i did enjoy the movie, even if i didn’t expect myself to. it had a simple plot, very easy to understand, plus there were a lot of computers and tech stuff involved… my weakness! the action scenes were great! who would’ve thought that it is possible to have an F35 involved in a truck chase?!  credible? not really… but quite entertaining.

looking for an old fashioned action movie to amuse you for a couple of hours? go ahead and check this movie out!

bug

As part of hubby’s bday celebration, after having dinner at chef ‘d angelo’s, we watched the movie “bug”. it starred ashley judd, harry connick jr., and michael shannon. It is based on a novel and play about a lonely girl who lives in a dingy oklahoma motel room and a creepy ex military spewing off conspiracy theories every chance he gets. this is such an intense film from the man who gave us “the exorcist” eons ago, william friedkin. michael shannon reprises his role in the play as peter evans, the ex soldier who is convinced that the government used him as a petri dish and implanted bugs under his skin as part of a top secret government experiment. he gives a compelling performance as a delusional man who really believes that bugs are literally crawling and living in his body. he exhibits enough vulnerability that makes you believe that he is a good, sane man victimized by the government, yet exudes  dark force as evidenced by spurts of violence, either inflicted
on himself or on others. ashley judd is such a revelation in this movie! i have always liked her, from the serious action/drama: double jeopardy, high crimes and twisted to the cutesy wootsie movie someone like you. i just like her… her face, her acting. in this movie, she’s not dolled up and yet you can still see how pretty she is. she gives so much emotion in the way she delivers her lines, her acting lets you know how it feels to be a simple-minded separated woman who lost her child in a grocery store 10 years ago and now feels that she has nothing to live for and no one to claim as her own. a desparate, sad woman who’d give anything to keep the first relationship she’d had in years.

i know not everyone will agree, but i loved this movie. they talked a lot, and usually that is a big turn off for me, but this time, the emotions and the intensity that flows between these two people having a conversation was entertaining enough for me. this is such a powerful movie about loneliness, paranoia, and well, shared insanity i guess. did they really have bugs in their skin? was it all in their minds? you be the judge.

a simple creepy film with great acting. definitely worth watching.

more than meets the eye

just watched the movie Transformers. loved it! if ever you’re going to watch it, be sure to watch it in a good cinema coz the sound effects are amazing, literally will shake your seat! the fight scenes are superb. the story is simple really, enemy robots come to earth to look for a cube, that is a power source of sorts, they meet earthlings who, the autobots decide, are worth risking their robotic lives for since they see some good in the new generation. fight. fight. fight! the simple plot works for the movie instead of against it since a thick, twisty plot would’ve shifted your focus from the sheer joy of watching icons of your (well mine at least) childhood take each other on in the big screen.
shia labeouf is funny and entertaining, a very good casting choice indeed. megan fox is a bit blah though, her only contribution is her flat abs and pouty lips, not even that pretty for my taste. josh duhamel on the other hand is simply yummy as the soldier who helps fight off megatron and his posse, and without even taking his shirt off! ;)
hearing optimus prime’s voice gave me goosebumps, you see they used the voice of the original prime, and peter cullen delivered his script is a deliberate, confident, booming manner. so optimus prime.
i just loved the funny scenes, shia is such a goofball, and well, so were the robots. =) watch the movie to find out more!
michael bay as usual, delivered in this movie. as i said the action scenes were simply great, the cgi, almost flawless. the chase scene in the highway with cars exploding and flying everywhere just reminded me of the movie bad boys so much. maybe next time he can choose some other venue for car chases and explosions =)
great entertaining movie! hubby had this wide smile pasted on his face during the whole movie! needless to say, we were very satisfied… and are planning to watch it for the second time!

review: ocean’s thirteen

simple. loved the movie. this time their mission was personal. their friend and financier, reuben (eliot gould) , sufffered a heart attack when he was duped out of his share in a new casino built on the strip by willy bank (al pacino), a known double crosser. ocean’s group vowed revenge, if only to give reuben a reason to get better. however, when their funds started to run low, they had no other choice but to seek the help of their old enemy, terry benedict (andy garcia) ahh… the plot thickens, especially when it turns out this was not the only reunion in this movie. ;)

their tactics were a bit complicated, i felt they depended too much on people that can be bribed. i just think it’s not so smart  to put too much trust in someone who can be bought by the highest bidder, but that’s just me.

the movie is entertaining, funny, amusing. same as the 2 previous ocean movies. george clooney was as dashing and classy as ever. brad pitt again made me forget he’s a darn adulterer…. cute and charming in this movie. matt damon was good at taming down his performance. i mean it had to be good acting to pretend you’re a sidekick, when you already play the lead roles in other big movies. he’s cute as he tries his best to measure up to his parents (known masters of heist) and to his group, particularly danny and rusty. too bad julia roberts didn’t join them in this movie. she would’ve added more fun in the already great movie. =) the whole crew performed well, although basher (don cheadle) was a bit OA for me as the motorcycle guy. andy garcia, still sinister and handsome at the same time. al pacino, old but still scary and effective. ellen barkin… hmmm… collagen personified. nice bod still though. i felt uncomfortable when she started coming on to matt damon. for me, di bagay.

want to go in the movie house and amuse yourself for a few hours? watch this movie… fun!
